Drowning in books

Hello all! It has been quite some time sense I have been on the blog in a while, I don't know if I told you this but I did win 30 plus books by author Janet Evanovich which is the Stephanie Plum series..  and I have a ton of books that I really need to catch up on. It's like I am drowning in books! I really should probably invest in a storage unit to put some of these books in storage!!

Like seriously I way to many books and not enough space, but on the other hand I do have great books but if I could put some in storage that way I can have space in my room.. Because I only have one book self.. So that would help alot.. But other than overflowing in books everything is well here just drowning in books! I wouldn't have it any other way!

The Claming of Sleeping Beauty, by Anne Rice

Hello all! I thought I would come threw and share with you all the book that I am currently reading and that is The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty. Now most of you know that author Anne Rice is no stranger to slightly erotic topics in some of her books, example The Vampire Chronicles, however non compare or even come close to this trilogy of books which is erotic done to the 1,000 power. I have read several erotica in my life, I have even tried my hand in writing some myself. I first heard of this trilogy threw my boss, he told me about it.

Now at first I was skeptical about it I was like sure ok.. I fairy tale redone with a erotic twist... man was I wrong in my first impression of this book! This book so far is well erotic yet it is written so well that it's really good. I say this cause most of the past erotica that I have read in the past was not as well written as Rice's. This trilogy however is not for the faint of heart. If you are not used to sex being out there boldly I would recommend something else to help ease you into this trilogy. So far I am halfway threw this book and it's really good! Look for the review soon!

Candy Licker Review (Revised)

Okay so yesterday I posted a review about the book "Candy Licker" by urban author Noire. First let me say that in retrospect the book is nothing but grime and stupid smut that personally makes African-American's look bad. I understand that it is completely a work of fiction and in no way is it real. However, this book is like is like a cold I can't quite shake. I find that my idle minds wanders back to certain parts of the book. This book and I am almost certain that author Noire's other books do the shame thing, which is catering to a certain demographic.

I don't see how people enjoy these kind of books they are nothing but low grade smut that only a certain kind of person could enjoy! I mean who could possibly enjoy a book in which the main character is abused and degraded?! It's nothing more than a low grade "Lifetime" movie. I am making this the last book I read by this author.

I did go on the author's website yesterday after I posted my review to get a better look at the author, and let me say that all of this author's books follow the same formula and it's very unoriginal. Everything about the author's website was typical stereotypes, rap music the whole nine. It's a shame being of African American descent myself it made me sick. I end by saying this DO NOT waste your time by reading this low grade smut save your time and read something better!

Big books bore me..

As a blogger call me bias but large books to me are boring, I know this sounds crazy but I have the mind of a gold fish, so if I am reading a large book it has to have a good plot. I tried reading tons of large books and I have yet to finish one of them. I do have one book that I am reading that is a larger book but it is actually holding my attention. I love reading but certain books should end after a set amount of pages if the story is going no were.

It seems logical I know that I am not the only one that thinks like this. Maybe I just have really short attention spans.. Maybe not...

Fifty Shades Darker Review

Ok I'll admit I thought about not finishing this book, in a way I am kinda glad that I did. Now don't get me wrong this book had it's positive's and negatives with me but on the whole it was a good book. I was not really crazy about it, but the ending like the first one is what made me wanna read the third one. I will say that it did pick up pace and spped toward the middle and end. I was very pleased with how it did come to a close and it left the reader wanting more. I will be reading the third just to find out how the sreies comes to a close.

Manga Friday

Ok so I started to get back in manga, and I have to decided to read "Death Note". I have watched the series when it came on cartoon network and I love it. It's a very decent series I love the artwork in the books and I love the whole plot behind the series.

Plot: The "Death Note" series is about a high school student by the name of Light who finds a notebook called "Death Note" and he opens it up and it's basically it's a notebook with a bunch of humans names written in it, however who ever has there name written inside the death note will basically die.. So he decides he will try to rid the world of evil. His plan back fires when the cops get wise. This series is really good, and one of my favorites.

Using e pub books for nook

Today I was surfing the web and I came across the library's website for Oklahoma. I knew that you could check out books digitally, I could never get it to work for me until today when I gave it one more try and it worked for me! I am so stoked because now I can finish reading my favorite series on my nook and it's so super free threw the library. The only flaw that I can think of is that you only get the book for 14 days or two weeks. I have been known to get threw a book fairly quickly depending on how good the book is. I think that I can make it threw my library books in two weeks.

I just had to come by for my first post in may to share the great news that I got the library system downloads to work for me. Well that's all the news I have for now. Until tomorrow.. Later!!

Currently Reading

Okay this has been a series that I have heard a lot about. My boss told me about this series and I have been meaning to read it. I do know that there was a TV adaptation of it made for HBO, but if you know me by now I love reading the book versus watching the movie or TV version. I feel like when it comes to books that are turned into TV or movies. It's always better to read the book, for those little chunks that are left behind. The book ALWAYS is better than the television or movie versions.. I will let you know how that goes..

Reading alot of series

So I have been doing alot of reading and I have been enjoying alot of different series, I few examples: 50 shades of grey, Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, and the hunger games series. I admit it's alot of reading to do yet I really enjoy it. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. That is by far becoming one of my new favorite series. I did say that in my last post that I was going to start reading more romance books just to give them a try and only time will tell if I actually enjoyed them. I am glad that I have a nook, so no one can see the corny covers of the romance book (That is a plus!). Well that is all I have for now so until tomorrow.

Thoughts on romance books

Okay so I have my choice of favorite genre's of books, but I have yet to read a romance book, I did find a couple that may be good, I will give them a shot soon as I am done reading the book that I am reading. I just think that romance books are not my thing, however I can't really say that I don't like them because I have never read them. I will give them a chance asap. I just have to find the right one to read. I will let you know how that turns out .

Violence in Books/ Book rating system (Weekly Discussion)

I have recently read "Fifty shades of Grey" and that book made me think: How and when is violence in books enough? I know that there has been a lot of violence and suggestive situations in books, that's why they have a banned books list, yet when a book like "50 shades of Grey" comes out and it actually takes the reader into the world of BDSM. Who is to say that this book wont end up on the banned books list?

Let me say that I did enjoy reading this book, and I would more than likely read the next two books in the trilogy.. and I am not bashing the book. I just think that the book was a little graphic. Now given that hopefully kids would not be  reading this or such other graphic books. My opinion and this may just be me and maybe a few other people who are conservative, I think that books should follow a rating system like movies and games.

It would cut down on books like this being read by such suggestive minds, maybe I am over thinking this whole graphic concept of books and the effects that they have on young minds. I sure don't think that I am the only one who has thought like this before. If books did follow such a rating system would that make people more tempted to read them? Like taking "Fifty shades of Grey" this book would be rated R or M for mature. Would that makes people like minors want to read this book? Or would imposing such a rating system on books put them on the banned books list?

I would love to here feedback on this and what do you think about the idea of a book rating system..

Thoughts on "50 shades of Grey"

I must say this is one interesting book, the fact that it started as twilight fan fiction. You can really see the influence Twilight had on E.L. James' book. It even took after Twilight with the very simple cover. As for the book as a whole I did enjoy reading it. It did have it's moments were it was "wow" steamy, and I do see why suburban moms got all steamy.. Just kidding.. I did think the ending was a big let down. Makes me want to read the next one. But it was a very very interesting book. I would love to know what made Christian the way he is.

Seeing the Movie vs. Reading the books

Maybe it's just me but I am the kind of person that likes to read the book first then watch the movies, I think that if you read the book first it makes the movie more enjoyable. What I have also have found out that 99.9% of the time the book is going to have some stuff that the movies leave out. For example, with the book "The Help" was pretty detailed but when it came to the movie it left giant chunks of the book out. I have also noticed this with "The Game of Thrones" series. In the books they go into so much detail and they explain the characters so well, however when they go into the series made for tv things are left out.

That is why I think that it's important to read the book first because it will not only give you better understanding of the movie yet you will also understand the plot more fully. Maybe I am not the only one that does that but I find that it's a real big help to seeing the bigger picture of the plot..

Thought's on Steve Job's Biography

I said awhile back that I was going to give bio's a chance and I did. I thought I would start with a very interesting person: Steve Job's. I read threw his bio and at point's it was interesting but then I continued to read on and I realized that even though he was a genius, he was a ass. Seriously, Steve was a immature, spoiled ass. Maybe it's because he had a rough time with being adopted still doesn't change the fact that he was a douche.

I didn't care for the story of his life, maybe it's how it was written but I really couldn't stand reading about someone who was spoiled and treated there employees like trash.. I am sorry he was a very smart man and yes I am blogging from a Mac and I own a i pod, but the man was a grade a douche.. I might continue to read biographies but I am looking at Steve in a new light...

Thoughts on Biographies

I personally think that biographies are great and they help tell the person's life but I really cant sit down and read the biographies unless the person is a very interesting person. I might give them another chance but I can't really sit threw the whole thing on someone's life. I did try reading Steve Job's bio and I didn't care for it. I will give my thoughts on it in a later post.

I think that bio's are very boring and very dull. Maybe that's just me but I just can't sit threw them... to each his own right?

classic collection (part two)

Ok since I started my classics collection of leather bound books I really want to read them but I don't wanna take them to work and run the chance of my really nice books getting ruined. What I thought about doing is buying them in either a e book for my nook, or either getting them in paperback. Just for the reason that they are really nice books (Plus expensive!) So I will have to do that. I did find some really good deals online you just have to know were to look.

Starting my collection finally!

So I know I haven't been in a while but I have been super busy and I am trying to keep up with everything. Meanwhile I have been updating my classics leather bound series. I have a few so far but not many. I want to get all the Barnes and Noble classics in the leather bound editions. That's gonna take a couple of weeks but I want them all I think it would be a great edition on my shelve.  I will keep you guys and girls updated as I add more to my collection. Here is a photo of what I have now:

I have four so far but I know and hope my collection grows large. My next purchases are going to be two more leather bound books. I figured I can add two more every week. So my collection should become huge in a short time. I will post more pictures as my collection grows more.

More thoughts on fantasy books

So I mentioned i while back that I had never really got into fantasy books, but I must say that I have found some really good authors and my perspective on the genre is changing as I read. So that is a plus, I am really enjoying reading the books. I just thought I would come threw and share my thoughts with you guys. I am actually really open to this genre. So I will have more as my journey threw all things fantasy continues!

So you remember when I told you that I was going to buy a new e reader well i went to Barnes and Noble and I got the second generation nook, the one with the full touch screen and I love it! It is the best and it's perfect for me because I do have this blog and this lets me send some of my reading updates to twitter and Facebook. I will have to take a picture of it and post it for you all to see. I just thought I would come threw and share the great news about my wonderful new nook.

Thinking about getting a new e reader

Hey there I am thinking about getting a new e reader because the one I have know is great and all it's just outdated so what I was thinking is getting a new e reader. I love the nook but I have the first generation so i was thinking about either getting the nook color or the second generation nook which is a little faster. I don't know I still love my first nook though. I do wish that B & N would let you trade in your old reader for a new one. That would be the greatest perk EVER! But if a decided to get a new nook I would do it with some of my tax refund. then just save the rest. Heck I will keep you posted.

Addicted to Barnes and noble...

I have a problem.. I am addicted to Barnes and Noble... This bookstore gets more of my business than I have ever know! Like I seriously have a real bad habit of buying books, maybe it's because I am a avid reader.. I don't but I can spend a whole day in that store. I just love the atmosphere of Barnes and Noble. Maybe I should go to books anonymous. I guess it's a real healthy addiction to have. I rather be addicted to books than some super bad habit. I guess I don't mind it, but yea I really do think I have a problem. I don't mind it, like I said it's a real healthy habit to have.

My thoughts on fantasy books (Sunday Discussion)

I love reading the Harry Potter books and I love reading fiction in general. However when it comes to fantasy books I can admit that I am not well read on that subject. I find some fantasy books to be confusing. Or just maybe I never got into the whole fantasy world's thing so I finally decided to give the fantasy genre another chance. So I have picked up some works by Brent Weeks to get me warmed up to the world of genre. My question for those who read are what are some of your fantasy books that you recommend for me? It's time that this book worm gives fantasy another chance!

The printed word is not dead! (Sunday Discussion)

With technology evolving so quick and so fast, it's hard to say that the printed word is still hanging in there. I must admit that the e reader offers a real luxury allowing there owners to take as many books as they want. However I must admit I still love the feel of the book in my hands.

I don't mind being called old fashioned on that note. I just feel that the printed word can still be relevant. In all my pros for the written word i admit I have broken down and bought a Nook when it came out. Even though I have a nook i find myself always going back to good ol fashioned book. Maybe I don't wanna have my expensive e reader come up missing when i am out and about. But its just something about the nostalgia about a book that I love so much. I would love to hear what you all have to say about this topic. Don't be shy let the flood gates open!!!
