Last big book push of 2013

Hey guys and girls, so I have been absent for a while and that is because work has not permitted enough time to read or write (bummer). But I did finish two of my last books for 2013. I do feel semi accomplished. I had to but in a lot of time in order to push threw those books before the year ended. I have not meet the large read goal I have set for myself. It was a good effort. Tomorrow starts 2014 and I will be more modest with my goals, all that matters is that I did finish reading the two I started before Christmas. Stay tuned in 2014 as I bring you more news about books and literature in 2014!

My gush on NOS4A2 by Joe Hill

Okay so I just read the best book "NOS4A2" by Joe Hill. It is a must read for anyone who loves the sci fi part of reading this book is a roller coaster of emotions. I love the fact that Joe drew on so many great elements for this book. I found my self just going on and on reading non stop about Charlie Manx and Vic McQueen and the deep inscapes of there minds.

For starters the title "NOS4A2" is German for vampire, and the book really revolves around two characters Vic McQueen and Charlie Manx. Okay now here is were the book gets so interesting.. both of the characters have the ability to create a world of there own inside there head threw the use of different items, Vic has bikes and well Charlie Manx has a vintage wraith Rolls Royce.

Well you know how they say how "To much of a great thing can be bad?" that is the case with both characters, Vic uses a bridge to help find the lost and the result is a sharp pain in her left eye, why the left eye? According to Maggie Leigh another character in the book with the same ability as Vic "All creativity is created by the right side of the brain which controls the left eye." So with Manx his vintage car his is "tool" and the result is that the car makes him younger and younger and a shell of a man with no emotion.

Charlie discovered Vic when she was just a kid, and he was surprise to find another person with the same talent he had, she was the only one to escape Manx and not be taken to "Christmasland" Manx's twisted little fantasy world.. As time passes on Charlie spends time chasing down Vic, until he finds her, kidnapped her son with a plan to take him to "Christmasland". The final showdown of these two characters was amazing, speaking of amazing I was held in a moment of awe at the ending.. It was a great way to end the book Mr. Hill. I truly enjoyed this book and I will re read it in 2014!

Nook vs Kindle

In today's world of technology physical books are slowly being replaced with e books and audio books in some cases. If you have been leaning towards getting a e reader you may be torn between Barnes and Nobel's "Nook" e reader and Amazon's "Kindle" reader. Which is the right one for you? It all depends on what you want to get out of the device. I personally have the Barnes and Noble "Nook HD tablet" and I do enjoy it. I only use it for books and gaming every now and than.

I was looking at the different devices and I actually think I might switch to the newest kindle, it's the kindle paper white and it's really light and really thin. Like I said there are advantages to each device. With the nook one of the key things is that with the nook you can expand your storage to up to 32 GB while with the Amazon Kindle I don't believe that you can. Amazon's kindle allows you to use your amazon login to do more of your purchasing of books. Barnes and Noble makes a excellent reader device, I have had every model of the Nook device and I really enjoy it.

I have been a little hesitant to try the kindle but what is the harm in trying something new? Only thing that I do not like is that I will have to re buy all of my books that I have threw Barnes and Noble. So I may just stick with Barnes and Noble. If you are looking to invest in a e reader or a tablet I would defiantly do your research before committing to a tablet or e reader. Make sure though that you do find one that you can say at the end of the day "Hey I do like this".

Boring books

Ok, so I just came across a book that reviews said that it was awesome and that it was a recommended great read.  However I went to the library to the book that was recommended, the title of the book was "The Interestings" by Meg Wolitzer. I really did want to enjoy this book, but for some reason I could not get into it because of the character development. I really did not care for it. It seem to drag on without a good sense of direction.

Sad to say that I did not finish this book I did really want to like it, I had high hopes for this book because it was given such great reviews. That just goes to show that reviews are sometimes a liar, and people after all do have very different taste in books. I do hope that my next read will be a lot better currently I am in the market for a better read. If anyone has any suggestions let me know!

Plowing threw books equals a zombie

Okay so it has been a while since I got on my book blog but I have been busy trying to plow threw this book "The Marriage Plot" by Jeffrey Eugenides. It's one of those books that if you plow threw it too hard it will give you a mild headache. It's a amazing book don't get me wrong but I feel like I need a break from it with a nice Sci Fi book about magic..

I can only take so much of a deep book, I did think about getting my auidible membership back to help me mustard threw these books, but I just had to put the book down because I was getting to a zombie state.. Well I really need to find some breeze books to plow threw to take my mind of the epic that I am reading. Man I really love Eugenides as a writer but he writes with so much passion that you really need a break. So until next time I will keep on reading!!

Urban Fiction

Hey guys I am back and I have to say a few words about urban fiction and by urban fiction I mean books written for a certain demographic (African Americans). I have never really liked urban fiction, for the reason I think it is way to stereotypical of African Americans, with the drugs, sex and even the names. I think personally that anyone can write a urban novel. If I wanted to I could write one, but I don't want to because I have better things to do with my time.

I recently had a debate with a fellow reader and she loves urban fiction, I told her that I don't see why she likes urban literature. She then preceded to tell me that it is good literature. What actually qualifies urban books as good literature? I completely disagree with her but to each his or her own's. So what do you think: Is urban literature good literature?

Biography days

I have finally hit the days of my life were I am reading Biography's so I have started with some fairly interesting one's. On the list I have George W. Bush's biography, Tina Faye's, and Gandhi and Churchill. So I have a pretty good list of books to last a while. I have had a real hard time of finding books this summer that really interest me. So why not read about someone's life. What's more interesting than a president life? I know I probably should have picked up Bill Clinton's biography. I will get that one next.

I will let you know how my biography binge goes, this should be very interesting. Wish me luck, I think it will go well the only thing I can say about them is they are THICK!!! That's what you get when you pick up a biography right? This should be a real fun ride.

Catching up

So life has stopped me from reading like I wanted to, but I have been catching up slowly but surely. I did update my two other pages and I did knock out to books last week and that is a big accomplishment. So I am going to try my hardest to catch up and I will keep you all updated. Plus side is I am trying to plow threw books as fast as I can.

I have also tried to read a book that I really couldn't get into, I will have to tell you that later. It was awful I used to like books like that, but I guess my taste is evolving.. perhaps so.. I will have to explain the book to you, so until then I am out of here.

Just finished

Okay so I just finished ready "Two For The Dough" the second book in the Plum series. I won't say much here because I am saving a lot of info for my review but it was a good book.. Now go read the review for more info!!!

Comic Books In the Summer? Sure why not!?

Hey y'all I have been indulging my inner geek and reading a few comics in between my regular reading schedule. I have started back on anime by reading "Death note" which to me has the best villain in a comic book in a very long time. I also started reading some old back issues of "Super Man: The man of steel". Who doesn't like superman? I also to a interest in "The Walking Dead" comic books. I blame my Assistant store manager Joshua for getting started on walking dead.

So yes i have been being a absolute nerd this summer and reading comic books. I find comics as a very welcome break from all the reviews I have been doing. Yea I need a break from books I am doing from the blog so why not pick up a comic? Speaking of which I do have a review to post about a book I just finished.. Ha that was so random but yes I thought I would come threw and share my little bit of nerd habits with you all!

Catching up on old book that are unread

Hey guys and gals, I have decided while I am waiting on some new summer reads I would catch up on some books that I started but never finished. I have a bad habit of reading a book then losing interest in it. I have the mind of a small fish and I really need to finish a bunch of books. I will have to post a list of all the books I need to finish. It's really a sad long list, plus it really sows how bad my attention span is. With that being said I will focus on those books on the list until my new releases come out.

Pre Review thoughts on "The Host"

Okay so when I first got the book "The Host" I put off reading it for the longest. I was in no rush to read it because it was written by the same author who wrote "Twilight". I must say this book is not as bad as I thought it would be. The only thing I can say about this book thus far is that it started out really confusing.

Like I really didn't get whose point of view I was reading from. Was I reading from the souls pov or was I reading from the "host" pov. It was confusing because it took  me a really long time to figure that out. I haven't really gotten in to the book deep enough, but it seems to me that this book is basically "body snatchers" with a romantic twist. Like the story of " Body Snatchers" has been done to death. I will have to let y'all know how it goes... So until then..

Teen Literature

Hey guys I thought I would come threw and voice my opinion about teen literature. I admit it's not one of my favorite genres in books. Although I should be more open about teen literature and not so closed minded. I think that teen fiction is one if those genres I cant take serious because.. well it's teen literature. These books are way to easy for a seasoned reader like myself to read. I did decided to give this genre a second look and try to read some of the books that are in this area. I recently read one book from this particular area and it was not a strong start to the genre.

However, I will not judge the whole genre of books on this one book. I will keep you all updated as I explore a new section of books and as I try to grit my teeth and bare threw the genre know as teen fiction. Mind you though that LB is not a girly girl that watches twilight.. and nor am I a self loathing depressing girl that lives for twilight.. LB is a bibliophile that enjoy's good literature and loves a good historical novel. I am only reading this genre of books because their has been a surge of these books recently and I want to see what the hype is about..

Finished (pre review thoughts)

So I just finished reading "Divergent" and this book was okay. I will go into more detail in my review of the book but it was not good and was not bad. It was a okay book. A very easy read. Stay around for the review for a more in depth look of "Divergent"

Entwined with You pre release thoughts!

Okay so for those who have been following the blog for the past weeks will know that I have been a HUGE fan of the "Crossfire" series with Gideon and Eva. Well for those who have actually taken my advice and started to read the series will understand me when I say that these books are AWESOME! I am also super happy that book three and the very last one in the series (awww man!) will be released on 6/4/13! I can't wait I need my fix of Gideon and Eva. I want to see were and how there relationship will end..

I did go on Sylvia Day's website and I read a excerpt of book number three, man it make me really wonder what is going to happen now that Gideon did the unthinkable (read book two to find out what he did). I am so curious to find out more. One thing I do hope is that the ending of this book ties everything up completely instead of leaving the reader with on answered questions like several other books have done. I thought I would share my joy on the series being finished. I do hate the fact that I must wait for it to release on June 4 but I do hope the wait is worth it!

here is the link for an excerpt of "Entwined with You"

Finished!!

Okay so I did forget to mention that I did finish this book as well.. This is part two to the first book " Bared to you" By Sylvia Day. I really did like this one a lot better! Stay posted for the review!
